I fail to see the logic

As of today, all the Euro Cup games move to 20h45. No more 18h00 game and then a 20h45 game. Now we can only watch one per day instead of two. That doesn’t make sense to me. Why cut the viewing audience in half?

It’s for the last two - and crucial - matches in each group. When playing simultaneos the teams of the very last game can’t play strategical to achieve a certain result for choosing the group winners. Because they don’t know the other result.

Can sell twice as many days of advertising for the remainder of the tournament?

Or maybe (and this makes more sense to me) now that the competition’s on, they want to make sure that everyone — even those working until 18:00 — can tune in for the later games as the pressure heading into the final rounds builds.

But what do I know? The first sporting event I will have attended in something like 4.5 years will be a basement game!

i wish i could attend the basement game!

Sebastian is right. For group A, which will be playing tonight, this would not be necessary, however, because Portugal have qualified for the quarter-finals already and for Switzerland the tournament will definitively be over after the preliminary round. The only important match tonight will be Turkey vs. Czech Republic, so it really doesn’t matter if the two matches take place consecutively or simultaneously. Of course no one knew about that when the tickets were sold, so they cannot move one game to 18h00 on short notice.

Thanks for the explanations.

Doh! How the hell did “basement” replace “baseball” there? I can’t even blame it on bar-pouncing.

I hope these aren’t Austrian basement games…

Also, anyone else currently unable to watch any games at all? Our ZDF signal has been out for 5 minutes.

Das nenne ich schwarzer Humor!

I’m looking forward to meeting you at Alte Linde for some Biergartenunterhaltung. You’re going to be there, right?

I know, I know, I am seriously evil. Planning to be in Regensburg for all the Saturday activities, and definitely looking forward to it!

And thank goodness ZDF came back quickly - that was some game!

Yeah, it’s kind of a bummer to not be able to watch both games. I understand the reasoning, though.
