Euro Cup

Euro Cup started yesterday with the Czech Republic beating Switzerland and Portugal demolishing Turkey.

So, being that I live in Germany, who am I supporting?

Spain, of course.

What’s up with the daft times the matches are played on weekends? 18h00 and 20h45? Football (soccer) is a weekend afternoon event here in Europe, no an evening one. It’s sort of like it’s timed for the north American market to be able to watch them, but this is Euro Cup, not to mention the fact that most north Americans don’t watch football (soccer).

and who do you support in today’s evening match? Poland or Germany?

actually, i am a bit afraid of going out in the evening, not to be killed or hit by a thrashbin, which happened to be flying nearby me.

Iggy, like you even need to ask? Poland, of course.

well, your support was not good enough :)

I thought it was just desirable that most working people could catch the games as well. I have heard through the grapevine that school teachers have been asked to be lenient with sleepy students on account of the EM.

And some folks in the States are watching. My sister tried to introduce her (and our) neices to soccer on Saturday. Unfortunately the 3yo only wanted to support the “team” with the light blue shirts (i.e. the referees).

Ann, most can catch them on afternoons on weekends like during the regular season, one would think.

Good to know that some people in the US are getting interested in soccer.
