2008 Meet-Up Location

Since I won’t be doing much blogging for a bit (see below), I thought I’d slap this up.

How about starting to work on a location for the Fourth Whiney Expat Bloggers in Germany Meet-Up?

Anywhere can be nominated in this first round, and later there will be a second round in which you can’t vote for your own city (we started that a couple years ago and it seemed to work well).

Here’s a map, so those that need it can see where various places are.
Map of Germany

For readers that haven’t a clue as to what I’m talking about, The Whiney Expat Bloggers in Germany invade one of our towns every year for a weekend for sightseeing, camaraderie, delicious meals, lots of photography and a bit of whining (so far we’ve been to Marburg, Bonn and Dresden). New attendees are definitely welcome.

Go on then, nominate a place and please pass the word on..

I would like to nominate Nuremberg, again. I’ve been there twice and found it to be a very nice city that calls for more exploration.

Can we nominate just one?
I’ll go with Bremen, which was so close to winning last year.

adam, Nburg is a great idea and one I’ve been considering too (I haven’t decided yet), but there’s still the same problem as last year - no local to show us around. How about finding one?

cn, Great choice - I was there last August for a few days. Yes, nominating just one is the best idea or it gets to be too confusing.

Yes to Bremen! Only a stone’s throw away from me for a change. :-)

Berlin! Probably the only way I can get time off from the kids to actually do things and meet people!

For some reason your feed wasn’t updating and I missed this (embarassed smiley)

I vote Berlin too! More room to get into trouble. :-)

hmm I’m going to vote for Bremen too actually.

So far it’s only:

Nuremberg
Bremen
Berlin

I still can’t decide where I want to nominate. Perhaps Frankfurt so I can change some opinions about the city? lol

Only 3 cities so far?? Fine, then I’ll go ahead and nominate

Frankfurt

simply because it’s fairly centrally located :-)

I’m tempted to be a trouble-maker and nominate Halle-Neustadt or some other obscure eastern architectural nightmare… but I won’t. As a newcomer, I’ll defer to the more experienced whiners. :)

I’m going to be a trouble maker too and nominate Wiesbaden, heck it’s only half hour from Frankfurt and they have a Casino! I’m not an expat but I’ll be thereabouts in September…ciao

Either Frankfurt or Nuremberg because they’d be close enough either to go with or without my family. If I bring the family, my little chickadee will sit and beg food off all you, highly embarrassing - we do feed her, I promise.

Once again putting in my vote for Berlin, but changing the wish-date:

Can we make it in November like last time? The weather isn’t much of a factor anyway when you’re inside whining.

Relatively new to blogging (my site has been “live” for just over three months), and relatively new to Germany (I’ve lived here for just over six months) I’m happy to go anywhere. Honestly, I am just excited to have found that there is a community of expat bloggers!

Looking forward to checking out all of your sites.

If it’s to be in July, you may disregard my vote as I will be away for most of the month.

But if there’s a chance I can go, please somwhere central-ish - Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Nürnberg are all at least central on the N/S axis.

The Pfalz–Speyer or Bad Durkheim. September offers many wonderful wine fests. What could be better than Wine for the Whiny?

Ooo, wine does sound good…

I’ll put in a vote for Berlin. There is just so much to do here… and all roads lead to Berlin, Right?

Hamburg!

Berlin!

But you knew I’d say that, didn’t you? :)

Erin, not only is there an expat blogger community, there’s even a Bonn contingency on this post. Belinda lives in the city, Andrea in the suburbs and me a bit further south.

Thanks for all the nominations, all. We’lll work on the final round of voting soon and the date after that.

BREMEN!

As a new mom I don’t get out much, but I would definitly take the stroller onto the commuter train to bremen.

If Blythe isn’t able to, I can show folks around Nuremberg. We hang out there fairly often.

[…] that we’ve got plenty of places to choose from, let’s determine the location, then after we have that we can work on the date (selecting the […]

Since Ms G has offered to show us around, I’m for Nuremberg. Christina G, which should I put you down for?
